Brading Heritage Centre Town Guides, Information. Town Records Photographs and Details of some Brading Families and other interesting informatio of Brading Heritage. William Russell of Yaverland Manor built THE RUSSELLS (now Gillys & the Heritage Centre) in 1623, as his Town House. |
Brading was then a very much thriving port with the sea coming nearly up to the church. Much trading was done and William would have used the house to entertain his clients. Later in the 19th Century it became a community and reading room which is at present being re-created where old and interesting books may be viewed. There is also a variety of craft, cookery, garden and hobby books, old reference books and encyclopaedia to help with homework, research or just a place for browsing. A place to sit and look for some inspiration. This is a free Centre, though donations are always welcome, it is financed by grants and with much assistance from the Town Trust, the Town Council, the Heritage Sop and volunteers all working for the good of Brading. The centre has facilities for researching articles, photographs and memorabilia of bygone Brading. It also boasts a reading room and photocopying, laminating documents etc.
