Set in three quarters of an acre, in the historic 'Ye Kynges Towne' of Brading, our attraction comprises three distinct elements, The Rectory Mansion, the popular Chamber of Horrors and World of Nature - a natural History Museum.
Rectory Mansion
A visit to this world famous Wax Works takes you through the mysterious ancient Rectory Mansion, part-dating well before 1066 AD. This beautifully preserved early Tudor, timber framed dwelling is a prominent feature of the complex and highlights the fact that we are more than just a Wax Works. Here, one can rub shoulders with famous and infamous characters, across 2000 years of the Island's colourful history from Roman times to the present day. The dramatic scenes, which incorporate authentic costumes and period furniture, are cleverly brought to life with sound, light and animation.
The Chamber of Horrors
Set in the Castle Dungeons - Many of the more ingenious methods of torture used through the ages are on display, including the authentic world famous Instruments of Torture from the Royal Castle of Nuremberg. Don't forget your camera - you can photograph your own execution!
World of Nature
A stroll through the Castle Courtyard brings you this unusual Museum. Here one can study at close quarters animals, birds and reptiles from all over the World in large colourful scenes, depicting their natural surroundings.
There are viewing cases for some of the smaller creatures, as World of Nature covers a vast range, from a minute Rhinoceros Beetle to an African Elephant. The different stages of Taxidermy are also shown, including a reconstruction of a Victorian Taxidermist at work.
Finally, there is 'Professor Copperthwaite's Fabulous Exhibition of Oddities' containing some amazing and bizarre creatures, including the elusive Yeti!
Visitors are also able to watch the fascinating art of candle carving, and demonstrations are regularly given from Easter to September.
We also offer a Gift shop and free parking at the rear of the site.
